Ok, so yesterday I witnessed the most horrible thing…

I was back home in Dominica visiting a friend whose name I can’t remember, and his young son I didn’t even realize he had. We had just come back to his home from some competition that I can’t for the life of me remember… (Hold on, it’s coming, just hang in there!). He was going to pack up a few things before we went to God knows where, and I look out the window that I happened to be standing next to…

My friend lived across from a ravine, not uncommon to where I lived in the country (and I mean Caribbean country) back in the day. Across the ravine from where were, there was a typical wood and galvanized shack sitting a few yards from the edge. As I reminisced about country architecture, through the corner of my eye I saw something fall from the sky and thought “It’s a bit bright for falling stars, isn’t it? It’s 2:00pm!”.

Seconds after, the unmistakable sonic boom of whatever made earth it’s new home… Ok, so a meteorite made it… And then another streak, this time, closer to the shack, but still far enough away to not destroy it. 2 seconds later, I watched as the ravine wall gave way, and the shack, with all it’s occupants (I have no idea how many, and it didn’t occur to me that there would be anyone in it), tumbled into the ravine below. I was horrified not by the demise of the shack and all within, but by the fact that I could feel the sonic boom as it washed over us, the rock crumbling away from the ravine and allowing gravity to run it’s course…

The third hit was much closer to home, and I jarred myself aware, after feeling the explosion of the missile that hit. “We are under attack???!!!”, I wondered, perplexed. “Who in the world would want to attack Dominica?”. I turn to my friend, who doesn’t seem bothered; “Let’s get outta here!”, I scream at him… And then the fourth missl….

I wake up, wondering what the heck just happened. Dream or nightmare? Or prophecy? Or maybe in a parallel universe? All I know is, I have got to stop playing Lego Star Wars so late…
